Lockhart completes training

    Army National Guard Spec. Ryan L. Lockhart has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.
     During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches and field training exercises.       Lockhart earned distinction as an honor graduate of the course.
      He is the son of Byron Lockhart of Presque Isle, and grandson of Beverly Shaw of Mount Vernon.
      The specialist graduated in 2003 from Presque Isle High School and received a bachelor’s degree in 2008 from the University of Maine at Orono.

McLaughlin scheduled to return home

    Army National Guard Staff Sgt. Christopher R. McLaughlin is returning to the U.S. after a deployment to Iraqi or Afghanistan in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom or Enduring Freedom, respectively.
       The soldiers return to Fort Dix, N.J., for debriefing, evaluations and out-processing procedures before returning to their regularly-assigned Army Reserve or National Guard units.
       McLaughlin, a construction equipment repairer, is a member of the 286th Combat Support and Sustainment Battalion, Bangor. He has served in the military for 13 years.
      He is the son of Eugene McLaughlin of Presque Isle.
     The staff sergeant graduated in 1985 from Nokomis Regional High School, Newport, and received an associate degree in the year 2000 from Eastern Maine Technical College, Bangor.

    Adam Chandler, of Presque Isle, and son of Steven and Susan Chandler, has earned the dean’s, commandant, athletic director’s and also superintendent’s list at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo. He is a junior. 
    The dean’s list consists of cadets who have a minimum course load and whose current SGPA (semester grade point average) is at least 3.0, excluding physical education grades. The commandant’s list consists of those cadets whose current semester military performance average (MPA) is 3.00 or above.  The athletic director’s list is made up of cadets whose current semester physical education average (PEA) is 3.00 or above and who meet all other established criteria.
