Kylie Rose Paradis, 12, the daughter of Rhonda and Bill Labbe of Ashland and Keith Paradis of Eagle Lake, recently tried out for a spot in the Northern Star (formerly Aroostook Idol) singing competition held in Fort Kent. Singing “Traveling Soldier” by the Dixie Chicks in front of 450 people took a lot of courage for someone so young.

For those that know Kylie, they said she did a great job, was very confident and is a natural on the stage. Kylie dedicated her song to “all the soldiers across the seas, to return home safely” and asked the crowd to bow their heads in a moment of silence during the song’s musical interlude. Her performance and respect for our troops left some audience members choked-up with emotion. That is the true mark of a performance – the ability to move your audience.
Though Kylie didn’t make the top three for the final competition, I am sure we have not heard the last of her! Way to go Kylie! You did a great job and should be very proud of yourself.

Snowmobile Club pie auction brings in the dough
A crowd of about 50, including club members (local and out of state), town residents and tourists were on hand at Dean’s Motor Lodge Saturday, Feb. 13 to bid on their favorite homemade goodies. Pies, cookies and other treats, made by club members and friends of the club, were on the auction block for the clubs’ annual pie auction. Over $1,500 was raised during the evening (as well as a few belly aches I am sure!) with the proceeds going to the PLSC fund used toward the expense of maintaining and improving the snowmobile trails. The biggest bid of the night was $160 for Beth Hummel’s Kalhua Cake!
