The American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Aroostook County gives everyone in the community a chance to help the Society save lives and create a world with less cancer and more birthdays. Former and current cancer patients, those who have lost a loved one to cancer, families, businesses, faith-based and civic organizations and anyone wanting to make a difference in the fight against cancer are invited to take part in this exciting team event. Relay For Life of Aroostook County takes place on June 4 and 5, at the Caribou High School. Relay For Life events are held overnight as the individuals and teams participating camp out on the track at the school. Since cancer does not sleep, each team sets out with the goal of keeping at least one team member on the track at all times throughout the duration of the event. Teams do most of their fund-raising prior to the event, but some teams also hold creative fund-raisers at their campsites during Relay. Relay brings together people from all walks of life to help further the American Cancer Society’s efforts to save lives by helping people get and stay well, by finding cures and by fighting back.
“Relay For Life is a wonderful cause that draws attention to the progress being made in the fight against cancer,” said Robb Miller, volunteer chair for the event. “Many participants are our family, friends and neighbors who have faced cancer themselves. Their involvement helps bring hope that, together, we can eliminate cancer as a major health problem.”
