LaPointe, Romain R., 76, Caribou, at Caribou, February 23, 2010. Interment will be in the Northern Maine Veterans Cemetery. Arrangements are in the care of the Mockler Funeral Home, Caribou.

 

ImageImage    Caribou – Romain R. LaPointe, 76, died February 23, 2010, at his Caribou residence following a brief illness. He was born in Caribou August 9, 1933, the son of the late Henry and Deline (Michaud) LaPointe. He attended the Holy Rosary Grammar School, was a graduate of Caribou High School and received his Associates Degree from Wentworth Institute in Boston. He served with the US Army during the Korean Conflict and he married Jeannette Perreault Oct 24, 1957. Mr. LaPointe was employed by Maine Public Service for over 41 years retiring in 1997 as the supervisor for Transmission and Distribution. Romain was a lifelong active member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church and was also a member of the Henry B Pratt Post 15 American Legion where he served as post commander in 1979, 1982 and Post Finance Officer in 1978. He was a licensed professional land surveyor, was a Charter Member and Past Treasurer of the Crown of Maine Chapter of Surveyors, and was a member and past Secretary-Treasurer of the Electrical Associates of Aroostook.
    Surviving in addition to his wife of over 52 years, Jeannette of Caribou are one son, Richard LaPointe and his life partner, Darlene Levesque of Caribou; five daughters, Ann Hull of Caribou, Frances LaPointe and her life partner, Cathy Heil of South China, Suzanne Saunders and her husband, Eugene of Caribou, Lisa Milliard and her husband, Peter of Woodland and Rosanne Kernan and her husband, Mark of Caribou; one brother, Edmond “Pit” LaPointe of Grand Falls, N.B.; two sisters, Shirley Gibbons of Huntsville, AL and Lorraine Barton of Sun City, AZ; his grandchildren who were his pride and joy, Leslie, Latricia, Lindsey, Christopher, Ashley, Danielle, Janelle, Bryan, Matthew and Hunter; six great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Mr. LaPointe was predeceased by a son, David, a brother, Stanley and a grandson, Daniel.
    Friends called  at the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir Street, Caribou 6-8 p.m. Thursday. A funeral mass was celebrated 11 a.m. Friday, February 26, 2010, from the Parish of the Precious Blood, Holy Rosary Church with the Very Rev. Jean-Paul Labrie, officiating.
