Peace Corps coming to town

To the editor:
Since President Kennedy established the Peace Corps in 1961, nearly 200,000 Peace Corps volunteers have served in 139 host countries working on issues ranging from AIDS education to information technology and environmental preservation.
My name is Stacey Ferguson, and I am the Peace Corps recruiter for the State of Maine. As a Peace Corps volunteer in Morocco, I worked as a maternal and child health volunteer, focusing specifically on HIV education within schools, heath and sanitation projects, and community youth camp organizing. My experience serving was one of the best times of my life and it has truly enriched and strengthened my personal and professional life beyond measure. It was quite a journey!
Peace Corps is currently looking for Mainers — college students, married couples, mid-career professionals and retirees — with experience in fields like agriculture, forestry, education, business and health care. For that reason, I am coming to Aroostook County in March and will host several events for those interested in joining Peace Corps or just learning more about the agency and its mission. On March 16, I will hold a 4:30 p.m. information session in the Grindle Conference Room at the University of Maine at Fort Kent. On March17th, I’ll attend the Career Fair at the University of Maine at Presque Isle from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. That evening, all are welcome at a 6 p.m. information session at the Caribou Emergency Operation Center at 111 High Street.
Peace Corps is a 27-month, overseas, all expenses paid experience that will provide you with personal and professional growth. Hiring managers know that returned Peace Corps volunteers possess creativity, leadership, ethics, commitment and resourcefulness.
If you have ever wanted to join an agency of the federal government devoted to world peace and friendship, this is your opportunity to find out more about Peace Corps.
