Do you ever feel yourself sitting around on a Saturday morning wondering just what’s missing? Do you ever get that “waiting for the other shoe to drop” feeling? Are you just itching to do something, but don’t know just what it is? Maybe you’re having yard sale withdrawal. It’s been months since you could get up early on a Saturday morning, grab your local paper, check out all the yard sales and plot your course from street to street.
The Houlton Humane Society is hosting a rummage sale at the Congregational Church on High Street Saturday, March 6, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. All items are available on a donation basis.
You can set your own price. You don’t have to dicker. You just tell us what you are willing to pay and we gratefully accept your donation. It couldn’t be easier or more fun.
“We look forward to these sales, because they are such a hoot,” said Cathy Davis of the Humane Society. “We love setting up for them and we love the amused look when people ask ‘how much for this?’ and we say ‘whatever you would like to donate.’ We have a good time and the end result is a few extra dollars to help the animal shelter take care of our critters.”
Those who would like to donate for the sale may bring them to the Church Friday evening from 5:30-7 p.m. Article of clothing are not accepted.
“As much as we appreciate your generosity, we just don’t have the room to display clothes or any place to keep them if they don’t sell, and to be honest, it just kills us to throw away perfectly good clothing so we prefer not to take it rather than waste it,” Davis said.
Also, the shelter does not take electronics.
“The only reason we have to be so fussy is that if these items don’t sell, we have to pay to dispose of them, and to be honest, that kind of defeats the purpose of a fundraiser,” Davis said. “We hope you can join us for this event. Every fund raiser that we hold benefits the animal shelter 100 percent and helps us pay for everything from litter to food to salaries, light bills, vet bills and insurance.”
