State meet next for PIHS swimmers

BANGOR — The Presque Isle boys and girls swim teams participated in the Penobscot Valley Championships Friday and Saturday at Husson College and had solid showings. Bangor High School captured first place with MDI following.
The Wildcat boys placed 10th with 24 points, while the Presque Isle girls were ninth with 54 points. Participating squads were: Bangor, Brewer, Old Town, Orono, Foxcroft, Washington Academy, Caribou, Bangor Christian, Hermon, Hampden, MDI, Ellsworth.
Wildcat Erica Hemphill scored points for her team in two events — 100-yard butterfly and 100 freestyle — while teammate Alecia Palmer placed in the 100 breaststroke.
Presque Isle’s Hemphill, Grace Short, Kyle Gilson and Stephen Goulet will be swimming individual events at the state Class B championships at the University of Maine at Orono Feb. 13 and 15.
