Grades 5 and 6 basketball results

    The Clippers held a 10-2 scoring advantage in the third quarter to erase a halftime deficit against the Pistons. The Pistons made a great comeback attempt in the fourth quarter to come up just short, as the Clippers held on for the thrilling 19-18 victory. Connor Murchison was the high scorer for the Clippers, tallying eight points. Marcus Ouellette chipped in with five points, all coming in the critical second half. Issac Devine netted four points and teammate Khasen Lowe finished with two points. 

    Bradley Kinney led five Pistons in scoring with six points. Gavin Kelley and Nick Bartlett popped in four points apiece. David Kofstad and Steven Kinney each contributed two points.
    Regulation wasn’t enough to determine the winner between the Celtics and Spurs. The Celtics scored first in overtime, then clamped down defensively to hold on for the 26-25 victory. Parker Lambert scorched the nets for a game-high 13 points to lead the Celtics. Grant Stewart netted 11 points, including the eventual game-winning basket in overtime. Frank Dawson rounded out the attack with two points.
    Pat Cash paced a balanced Spurs attack with 10 points. Grant Hemphill finished with six points, and teammate Jake Kinney popped in five points. Jacob O’Berry and Kyle Morris knocked down two points each for the Spurs.
    The Pistons bounced back with a strong defensive effort to knock off the Spurs, 15-11. Josiah Morse poured in a game-high seven points to lead the Pistons. Grant Bridges nailed two jumpers for four points, and Bradley Kinney and David Kofstad each hit baskets in the fourth quarter to finish with two points.
    Pat Cash once again led the Spurs, this time with four points. Kyle Morris chipped in with three points. Jacob O’Berry and Grant Hemphill ended with two points apiece.
    Skyler McAtee sparked the Celtics offense with a season-high six points as the Celtics upset the Clippers, 23-14. Grant Stewart led the Celtics with a game-high 10 points and Parker Lambert added seven points. Khasen Lowe finished with six points to lead the Clippers. Marcus Ouellette netted four points and the duo of Connor Murchison and Brandon McLean contributed two points each.

Indoor pool news

    The Presque Isle Indoor Pool will offer a kayak roll session Thursday nights starting Feb. 11 from 7-8:30 p.m. Naldo Gagnon will be supervising this class.
    The indoor pool is also offering an American Red Cross Lifeguard class Feb. 17-20. The class will run Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. The class includes lifeguard, community first aid and Professional CPR. Pre-registration is required by Feb. 12.
    The pool will have a special general swim on Friday, Feb. 5 from 1-2:45 p.m.

February vacation activities

    The Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department will host a variety of events during February vacation week. Please note there will be open gym Monday, but the office will be closed in observance of President’s Day. In addition to extended open gym hours daily, special events will run each day as follows:
    Tuesday, Feb. 16: Wii Fit and Fun Day from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. for grades 1-6. A variety of Wii games will be on display as we try to find out who’s the best hula hooper, H-O-R-S-E player, and bobsledder, among other events.
    Wednesday, Feb. 17: Bowling at Northern Lanes from 10 a.m.-noon for grades 1-8. The cost is $3 to bowl for two hours and shoe rentals are included. Must provide own transportation to and from the bowling alley.
    Contest Day from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for grades 1-6. Come take part as we see who’s the top foosball, ping-pong and connect four players in the area.
    Thursday: Snow Tubing and Big Rock for grades 4-8. The bus will leave at 8:15 a.m. and return at 12:30 p.m. The cost is $5 and all participants must pre-register by Wednesday the Feb. 17.
    Gym Games during open gym for grades 1-6. We’ll play capture the flag, rafterball, and dodgeball between 1 and 3 p.m.
    Friday: Take ME Outside at the Aroostook State Park for grades 4-8. The bus will leave at 10 a.m. and be back at 1:30 p.m. Activities at the park include snowshoeing, cross country skiing, a sliding hill and other fun activities. The cost is $2 and all participants must pre-register by Thursday, Feb. 18.
    Dollar Day for Presque Isle residents at the indoor pool. Presque Isle residents can partake in general swim at the Presque Isle Indoor Pool from 1-2:45 p.m. for just $1.
