Matmen fourth in EM meet

    PITTSFIELD — Two Caribou grapplers brought home regional championships Saturday, while another finished as runner-up at the Eastern Class B wrestling championship at Maine Central Institute.

    Brendan Wood won the 125-pound weight class, while Deion Caudill collected the 189-pound division. Both wrestlers pinned their opponents in the championship round. A third grappler, Andrew Adams, finished as runner-up in the 285-pound weight class. Grapplers Jason Case (112), Dustin Green (119) and Lance Jandreau (135) finished third, while Michael Selander (103) was fourth.
    As a team, Caribou (16-6 regular season record) placed third on the day. Camden Hills won the competition with 221.5 points, followed by Belfast, 155; Caribou, 129; Ellsworth, 106.5; MCI, 98.5; Medomak Valley, 94.5; Old Town, 66; Hermon, 61; Mount View, 29; Sumner and Georges Valley, each 18; Mount Desert Island, seven; and Central, three.
    “We had a great day,” Caribou coach Todd Albert said. “We had some good seeds that helped with our placing. The whole team has shown a lot of improvement since the start of the year. Now, with one week left to our season, we will try to work on little things to help with tournament wrestling. We have some wrestlers that have a good chance to place in the top four at States.”
    The State Class B championships will be held Saturday at Medomak Valley High School in Waldoboro.
    The individual Viking results from the regional meet were:
    103 pounds — Selander earned a first-round bye; pinned Gina Southivong, Ells, at 2:25; lost to Coleman Powers, CH, 17-1; pinned Jon Sargent, MDI, at 2:12; and lost to Alex Peterson, Herm, 6-5.
    112 pounds — Case earned first-and second-round byes; was pinned by Brandon Gonclaves, Ells, at 0:26; and pinned Jordan Hoxie, OT, at 0:17.
    119 pounds — Green earned a first-round bye; pinned Zack Harris, Ells, at 0:38; was pinned by Calan Bragg, CH, 1:54; beat Alexis Lodge, Cen, 12-5; and pinned Cheyenne Augustine, Med, at 2:15.
    125 pounds — Wood earned a first-round bye; pinned Julie Cookson, OT, at 0:24; pinned Josh Devou, Herm, at 0:43; and pinned Tom Cassidy, CH, at 5:57.
    135 pounds — Jandreau earned a first-round bye; pinned Jesse Kamienski, Bel, no time listed; lost to Phil Kyser, GV, 7-4; beat Adam Lynch, Med, 8-2; and defeated Max Bragg, CH, 16-8.
    145 pounds — Jake Michaud earned a first-round bye; lost to Neal Harrison, CH, 13-4; pinned Andrea Perkins, OT, at 0:48; pinned Hunter Tibbets, MCI, t 3:18; and was pinned by Dakota Jewett, Ells, at 0:57
    152 pounds — Jake Maher earned a first-round bye; was pinned by R.J. Muir, CH, at 1:40; pinned Neal Young, GV, at 0:55; and was pinned by Ryan Grover, Sum, at 0:26.
    160 pounds — Bither was pinned by Tristan Ripley, MtV, at 1:13; and was pinned by Dustin Willey, Herm, at 1:51.
    189 pounds — Caudill earned a first-round bye; pinned Peter Kelley, Bel, at 1:35; pinned Patrick Kidder, Ells, at 0:55; and pinned Brandon Graffam, CH, at 2:57.
    215 pounds — Swan earned a first-round bye; pinned Nash Roy, Herm, at 1:27; was pinned by Jared Sargent, Ells, at 1:25; and was pinned by Garrett Poulin, MCI, at 2:19.
    285 pounds — Adams earned first- and second-round byes; pinned Brian Jipson, OT, at 0:32; and was pinned by Justin Boyle, Bel, at 2:46.
