The Greater Houlton Christian Academy Eagles are in the number eight spot of Class D and will host a playoff game with Deer Isle-Stonington, the No. 9 seed.
The game will be today in Hodgdon at 5:30 p.m.
“I have scouted Deer Isle and find them to be similar to Washburn,” said GHCA coach Sam Henderson. “They are small and quick. They play very hard.”
With exceptions of a few tough losses to Hodgdon and Madawaska to finish the season, Henderson feels his squad has put in a very successful year so far.
“We have come so far and are learning what it takes every game,” he added.
If the Eagles win their playoff game, it will mark the first time in school history that the boys’ team has reached the Eastern Maine Tournament.
“My guys want to play in Bangor,” Henderson said. “But, we have to protect the ball, get inside, control the tempo and box out.”
The Hodgdon Hawks who are in the 10th position in Class C will travel to Madawaska today for their preliminary game.
The Hawks may be without the services of senior point guard Chris Williams, who injured his ankle. Coach Jerry Adams is hoping that Williams can return to help his squad reach the tournament.
