Jane C. Ames (Day), 73, passed away Feb. 6, 2010 at Calais Regional Hospital. Jane was born in Presque Isle in 1937 to Cecil and Mary Louise
Day and lived most of her life in Limestone.
In recent years, she resided near her son, Alan and his family, in Calais. Jane was a valued civilian employee at Loring Air Force Base for many years and later at the government Defense Finance and Accounting Service. She was a lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the V.F.W. in Caribou and the American Legion Auxiliary and especially enjoyed bingo. She also donated hundreds of handmade mittens to charities and schools.
Jane was predeceased by her husband Robert Ames. She is survived by daughter Barbara Ames and partner Meg Haskell of Brunswick, son Alan Ames and wife Debbie of Calais, daughter Deanna Quarles and husband Mike of Cary, NC and daughter Laura Quirion of Somersworth, NH. She was the proud grandmother to eight grandchildren living in Lancaster, PA, Seattle, WA,
Somersworth, NH and Cary, NC.
Surviving brothers and sisters are Shirley Day of Mars Hill, Gloria Belmain of Presque Isle, Gary Day of Kensington, CT and Arthur Day of Presque Isle.
She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Interment will be in
the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ladies Auxiliary to the VFW in Caribou, ME.
