Please keep in mind that the date for registering dogs in the municipality where the dog is kept was Friday, Jan. 1. Since that was a holiday, the deadline was carried over to Monday, Jan. 4. This is the same in Wade, Perham and Washburn, and the registrations can be done at the respective town offices during regular business hours. Owners will need their registration from last year, a rabies vaccination certificate and the spaying or neutering certificates. The fees are $6 for dogs that are spayed or neutered and $11 for those that are not.
The Washburn Town Office still has a good selection of coats in the Civic Center. Please feel free to stop by during regular office hours to take what you need.
The Civic Center is available for rental for a fee of $35 for the first two and a half hours and $5 for each additional 30 minutes (this includes the $10 key deposit). For further information, or to sign a rental agreement, phone 455-8485 or stop by the Washburn Town Office.
The Washburn Town Council held a preliminary budget meeting with Washburn’s Municipal Department heads to discuss budget figures for each department. The annual Budget Committee meeting will be held on Monday, Feb. 8, at the Washburn Civic Center at 6:30 p.m. Any interested residents are urged to attend.
Following the budget meeting, the regular Town Council meeting was called to order and began with the Pledge of Allegiance. The Council signed off on the approval of minutes from the Dec. 14 Council meeting and the Dec. 30 special Council meeting. They also reviewed the financial figures through Dec. 31, 2009.
The Council reviewed the quotation contract and invoice from Metalfab regarding the new fire truck. The Council voted to okay some minor modifications to the truck and was advised that it should be ready for delivery in early March.
The Council was also advised of a letter from ACAP with information of services performed by the group.
The next meeting of the Town Council is set for Monday, Feb. 8, at the Washburn Civic Center at 7 p.m. and, as usual, all interested residents are invited to attend.
Over the past few months, several Scout leaders from Troop 177 in Washburn have been working hard to upgrade the troop’s camp on the Everett Rd. Leaders have put on a deck, changed out the front entrance and door, put a second layer of floor down and rebuilt the kitchen as well as doing some electrical work.
A second-floor extension has been put over the kitchen and new access area with a balcony to the second floor. The camp is being well-insulated and with the help of the wood stove and new propane fireplace makes for a warm and toasty meeting place for the boys.
With the help of Willie Drost plowing the camp road and parking area, it made it possible for the troop to meet there during the winter months. All of this, work along with the new entrance sign for Camp Harrison and the bridge across the brook, has certainly made this facility more than an ordinary Scout camp.
Troop 177 decided to present these special volunteer adults with a plaque for all their efforts with their names and a picture of the troop on the front of the new camp deck. The leaders included: Mike Thompson, Randy Thompson, Donald Wilcox, Stacey Skinner and Greg Cropley Jr. A special thanks also goes out to all of the individuals and businesses that have donated to this cause.
