With all of the news coverage of the increased security requirements at airports and the resulting delays and inconveniences, I have been thinking about how attractive a vacation close to home might be. I know we don’t have the sun and sand but we certainly do offer many pleasant activities.
What could be more relaxing than packing your snowshoes, cross country skis or toboggans, a few good books and heading out to one of the area accommodations providers? If you are looking for peace and quiet and a chance to decompress, there can’t be a better place.
If you are interested in motor sports or alpine skiing, there are lots of opportunities to enjoy them as well. Many of the area cabins and hotels are offering great packages. If you haven’t experienced a vacation close to home, this could be the year.
Imagine the convenience of driving a few miles to your escape location. The best part is if you are like me and realize when you get there you forgot your toothbrush, you can easily return to your house and pick it up.
While on your vacation it is important to act like a tourist. Visit the places you haven’t had a chance to, eat at the restaurants that you are curious about and take in that movie you never have time for. Forget about the meetings you could be attending because you are still in the area.
When your vacation is over instead of traveling for a day with all of the related inconveniences and then scraping the ice and snow off your vehicle at the airport, you have just a short drive to your home, rested and relaxed.
