Fresh off its solid third-place showing at the Penobscot Valley Christmas tournament, the Caribou wrestling team hosted Mattanawcook Academy and Fort Kent Dec. 30. The Vikings (13-4) beat Mattanawcook 66-18 and bested Fort Kent 45-36.

At the PVC tournament in Howland Dec. 28, the Vikings were third out of 14 squads. Viking Brandon Wood won the 125-pound weight class by pinning Dominic Mortorano of Calais at 1:02. Lance Jandreau and Andrew Adams finished as runners-up. Jandreau (130 pounds) was pinned by Scott Carpenter of Calais at 4:47, while Adams (285) was pinned by C.J. Stratton of Penobscot Valley at 3:55.
In the consolation round, Mike Selander (112 pounds) finished third via a forfeit, while Levi Swan (215) also finished third by pinning Gabe Delano of Medomak Valley at 2:13.
At the Dec. 30 home meet, which also featured independent grapplers from Stearns and Madawaska, the individual results were:
103 pounds — Caribou forfeited to Courtney Burris, MA, and Megan Pelletier, FK.
112 pounds — Michael Selander (10-7) won by forfeit over MA and FK.
119 pounds — Dustin Green (14-3, 6 pins) won by forfeit over MA; pinned Josh Pelletier, FK, at 0:52; and pinned Jasper Young, Stearns, at 3:12.
125 pounds — Brendon Wood (10-4, 8 pins) pinned Wyatt Tash, MA, at 0:43; lost by injury default to Cody Lozier, FK; and pinned Jasper Young, Stearns, at 3:12.
130 pounds —Caribou forfeited to Ben Fernald, MA; and Spender Levesque, FK.
135 pounds — Kenny Griffeth (7-5, 1 pin) won by forfeit over MA; and was pinned by Jeremy Voisine, FK, at 2:43.
