Ski slide show presented in Aroostook County

    The Ski Museum of Maine’s 45-minute narrated slideshow titled “Down-Mountain and Cross-Country: 140 Years of Skiing in Maine,” is being presented free to the public at numerous locations in Aroostook County Jan. 4-8. 

    Public venues and dates include the Caribou Public Library tonight at 6:30 p.m., Turner Public Library in Presque Isle on Thursday, Jan. 7 at 3:30 p.m.; Nordic Heritage Center in Presque Isle on Thursday, Jan. 7 at 6:30 p.m.; and Big Rock Ski Area in Mars Hill on Friday, Jan.  8 at 6:30 p.m.

Big East Conference basketball statistics

    Basketball statistics for the Big East Conference have been released, and Presque Isle players are in the top-10 in a number of categories.
    For girls, Kayla Richards is sixth in scoring (11.5 points per game), fourth in assists (2.83 per game) and fourth in free throw percentage (73.17); Chelsea Nickerson is fourth in field goal percentage (50) and second in steals (4.33 per game), Elizabeth Kofstad is 10th in free throw percentage (62.5), Karlee Bernier is sixth in three-point field goal percentage (33.33) and Chandler Guerrette is ninth in steals (2.83 per game).
    For boys, Travis Dyer is fifth in scoring (14.6 ppg), third in three-point field goal percentage (50); and seventh in free throw percentage (77.78), Oliver Zubrick is first in field goal percentage (80), Nate Ackerson is third in field goal percentage (61.11), fourth in free throw percentage (83.33), fourth in steals (2 per game) and fifth in assists (3 per game); Ethan Braley is third in free throw percentage (84.62) and third in rebounding (8.4 per game); and Dillon Kingsbury is 10th in three-point field goal percentage (28.57) and second in assists (3.4 per game).

Athletes of week named

    The Presque Isle High School Varsity Club and Big Cheese Pizza are pleased to congratulate Brennen Shaw and Grace Short for being selected as athletes of the week for the week of Dec. 14-19.
    Shaw became the Presque Isle High School hockey team’s all-time points leader. Short qualified for the for the state swim meet in the 100 yard breaststroke.
