With the season now past the halfway mark, girls basketball teams are scurrying to gain victories in an effort to improve their playoff chances.
The following is a recap of games played through Monday, Jan. 4.
Easton 42, Wisdom 37 – At St. Agatha Monday, Kayla Guerrette poured in 17 points for Wisdom (1-5), but it was the team effort by Easton (4-4) that made the difference. Brooke Hammond paced the Bears with 13 points, while Carla Halvorson added 10; Ariana Babineau, nine; Sydney Trask, seven; and Mindy Desmond, Katie Cyr and Abigail Poole, one each.
Easton led 14-9 in the first quarter, but the two squads were tied 20-20 at halftime. Easton went back up 33-27 after three quarters.
Ashland 52, Wisdom 45 – At Ashland Saturday, the Hornets were able to get in their game against Wisdom before the storm struck. The Pioneers led 10-7, 24-22 and 36-35 at the quarter breaks, before Ashland seized momentum in the final stanza for the win.
Macie Pelkey led Ashland with 16 points, while Brooke Labelle and Taylor Baker both added 10. Baker also had numerous rebounds in the victory. Other Hornet scorers were Jessica Jimmo had seven points; Adrianna Paradis, six; and Whitney Donovan, two.
Presque Isle 51, Bucksport 27 – At Bucksport Dec. 30, Chandler Guerrette scored 18 points as Presque Isle (8-0) blasted past Bucksport. Other Wildcat scorers were Megan Ireland, nine; Elizabeth Kofstad, six; Karlee Bernier and Kayla Richards, both five; Chelsea Nickerson, four; and Haley Johnston and Meredith Stewart, both two.
Sadie Wight scored seven points to lead Bucksport (1-8).
