Houlton – Clayton Francis McCue, 92, died December 22, 2009. Clayton was born May 4, 1917, in North Amity, Maine, the son of William and Lulu McCue.
Clayton loved the Maine woods. He attained the rank of Eagle Scout at an early age and became a certified Maine Guide during his high school years. He later became a Scout Leader. He treated the land and all living creatures with respect and admiration. He taught this to his scouts, his children and his grandchildren.
Clayton worked 35 years for the B & A Railroad. He worked his way through various positions, but enjoyed many years working as a civil engineer. He was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, the National Guard and a WW II Veteran.
Clayton was predeceased by his beloved wife Faye less than two months ago. He is survived by his daughter Lulu and her husband Richard Howland; his daughter Mary and her husband Vaughn Putnam; his son David and his wife Mary; his son William and his wife Emerald; his daughter Kathryn and her husband John Moulton; his 19 grandchildren; his 31 great-grandchildren and his 3 great-great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by his daughter Welthy McCue Varney and great-grandson Elijah Putnam Flewelling.
Funeral and burial services will be held in June, 2010 in Houlton, Maine. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Clayton’s honor to The Moffitt Cancer Center Foundation, 12902 Magnolia Drive, UTC-FOUND, Tampa, FL 33612.
