A silent auction was held  Dec. 9 at the Sesquicentennial Celebration Center, during which time area history and photo buffs had one final chance to own one (or more) of the enlarged historical photographs that had graced the city during the 2009 Sesquicentennial Year.

Even though the weather didn’t cooperate a hundred percent that evening, an impressive number of auction-goers enjoyed a few hours perusing the keepsakes, keeping an eye on their bids, socializing and of course, partaking in light refreshments provided by committee members.
In the end, of the 48 photographs available to be purchased, all but 14 of them left the building. Since that time several others have been sold, with the remaining one or two items to be donated to offices within the city.
The silent auction raised an estimated $2,800 which was donated in equal parts to the Caribou Public Library and the Cary Medical Center Auxiliary.
