PRESQUE ISLE – Presque Isle Regional Career and Technical Center (PIRCTC) students Cole Brown, Justin Towle, Josh Nickerson, Ethan Campbell and team captain Christopher Cawley, along with alternates Josh Nickerson and Jordy Burby, recently won the Maine State Championship round of the Fed Challenge finishing first in both rounds.
The team then went on to compete in the New England competition of the “Reserve Cup” held Nov. 24 at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston where the team finished second.
For three years now, each November, representative high schools, one from each New England state, have assembled in the auditorium of the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston to compete for the Reserve Cup. The student teams participate in a quiz show format that tests their knowledge in a variety of financial matters ranging from financial literacy to economics to personal finance.
The PIRCTC team was leading after the first two rounds, but were edged out in the third and final round by the team from Massachusetts. The competition was taped and aired on NECN in December.
The Federal Reserve Bank of Boston covered all of the team’s travel expenses. All of the team members are enrolled in dual enrollment (college/high school) courses at the PIRCTC.
Amy White, Business Technology teacher, chaperoned the trip. The team adviser is Alan Curtis.
