The Presque Isle Wildcats picked up a tough road win and an easy home win this past week, and in the process moved to 6-1 overall and atop the Eastern Maine Class B standings.

In Augusta last Wednesday, the Gardiner Tigers took an early lead, but PI bounced back for a 5-4 victory thanks to Zac Campbell’s goal off an Isaac LaJoie assist with 2:15 to play which broke a tie game.
The contest was a see-saw affair throughout. PI held leads of 2-1 and 4-2, but the hosts battled back and scored goals 56 seconds apart midway through the third to knot the score and set up Campbell’s late goal.
Campbell and Brennen Shaw had two goals each for Presque Isle, while Mitch Davis had the team’s other goal. LaJoie and Jason Martin both finished with three assists, while Steve Ford and Jacob Buck had one each. Josh MacFarline was the winning goalie, stopping 20 of 24 shots.
Back home Monday, the Wildcats had a much easier time against winless John Bapst as they scored a 6-1 victory and won for the sixth consecutive time.
Shaw converted a Caleb Buck assist into a goal 6:51 into the match to stake Presque Isle to the early lead. Adam Flynn set up LaJoie for a goal with 1:15 left in the opening period, while Davis tallied with two seconds remaining in the first off assists by Derek Sczuroski and Martin to make it 3-0.
After a scoreless second period, Connor Shaw, Caleb Buck and LaJoie all scored third-period goals for the ’Cats, with Ford, Brennen Shaw and Flynn earning assists, before John Bapst’s Michael Kein finally broke through for their only goal with 2:22 left on the clock.
Presque Isle held a 29-12 shot advantage in the game, with Nic Davis saving 11 to earn the victory between the pipes.
The Wildcats get right back to work with a home game today against Winslow, the team they defeated in last year’s Eastern Maine championship.
On Saturday, a trip to Brewer looms with a rematch against the No.2-seeded Witches, who handed PI its only loss of the season, 3-1, in a game played Dec. 5 at the Forum.
