Wiley’s 27-points powers Greater Houlton past Easton

Boys basketball squads continue to jockey for playoff position as teams returned to the hardwood after a brief holiday break. Houlton’s game with Stearns, scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 23, was postponed to Jan. 22 at 7 p.m.
    The following is a recap of games played through Monday, Dec. 28.
Greater Houlton Christian 71, Easton 55 — At the University of Maine at Presque Isle Monday evening, GHCA sophomore Micah Wiley poured in a game-high 27 points to carry the Eagles past Easton. Chris Duff added 18 in the victory, while Ethan Olmer added 15; Jaron Gray, four; Zach Straubel, three; Ryan Campbell, two; and Ted Bowers, Ren Shirai, both one.
For Easton, Holden Turner led the way with 12 points, while Luke Fuller and Jeff Budreau both added 10; Reid Clark, nine; Jonah Bacon, four Zach Clark and Corey White, both three; and Jacob Bacon and Cody Tompkins, both two.
The two squads were tied 13-13 at the end of the first quarter, but GHCA went up 28-21 at halftime. That lead ballooned to 44-31 after three stanzas.
Southern Aroostook 68, Easton 61 — At Easton Saturday, Cody Robinson led the Warriors of Dyer Brook with 18 points, while Patrick Goodall and Dakota Sleeper both netted 17 in the win. Jesse Small chipped in with 16 points, while Jesse Boulier added four and Travis Casey, three.
For Easton, Clark led all players with 20 points, while Budreau added 12; Jo. Bacon and Ja. Bacon, both eight; Turner, six; White, four; Fuller, two; and Tompkins, one.
Southern Aroostook led 19-9, 36-24 and 53-35 at the quarter breaks.
Katahdin 85, East Grand 57 — At Stacyville Dec. 22, Brandon Robinson poured in 21 points as Katahdin defeated East Grand of Danforth. Lucas Craig scored 18 points and Colby Gallagher added 16 for the Cougars. Other Katahdin scorers were: Brady Curtis 12 points; Colton Bivinghouse, 10; Braden Cunningham, four; and Brady McNally, two.
Seth Cropley scored 21 points to pace East Grand, while Abe Brittian added 18; Andrew Gilman, 14; and Dustin Morse, two.
East Grand led 17-14 in the first quarter before Katahdin took a 46-26 edge into the halftime break. The Cougars led 73-57 after three stanzas.
