Activists have no idea

To the editor:
If either Jean Cobb of St. Agatha or Norma Milton of Stockholm had properly read Stella Nelson’s letter in the Dec. 2 edition of the Republican, they would have known that she was not bemoaning humanitarian efforts to protect animals but rather that homeless animals are given more consideration than the elderly and handicapped in our area … a point proven by the fact that Stella’s letter was tucked in the bottom of, and obscured by, all the articles having to do with dogs and cats!     Also, if they knew Stella, they would know that she is always helping somebody with something! At her church, for the American Legion, for the Vets, for the Seniors at Lyndon Heights; plus knitting and crocheting mittens, scarves, hats, gloves, for area children and adults without those things nor the money to buy them. She gives of her time, her talents and her limited income, to a degree that would put many a well-meaning philanthropist, to shame.
So … do either of you ladies, and any other animal rights sympathizers do as much for your animals or, (gasp!), even do as much for your own family members who are elderly, let alone the community at large? I don’t. I do a fair amount of volunteering but nothing compared to what she does.
I am not the only one that found their comments insulting to Mrs. Nelson, while completely missing her point so I hope this gets printed and answers everyone.
