PRESQUE ISLE — Poor road conditions factored into a noontime accident Tuesday on the Washburn Rd.
The Presque Isle Police Department received a report of a car off the Washburn Rd. at approximately 12:13 p.m. Dec. 15. Upon arrival, emergency personnel found a Dodge sedan in the ditch across the road from Pine Village Trailer Park.

According to Officer Brian McQuarrie, the driver, identified as James Templeton, 55, of Presque Isle, appeared to be driving too fast for road conditions when he lost control of his vehicle. Templeton, the sole occupant of the car, sustained minor injuries in the accident and was transported by Crown Ambulance to The Aroostook Medical Center, where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Cowett’s Towing Service, of Presque Isle, was called to remove the vehicle. The Presque Isle Fire Department also assisted at the scene.
A second driver was reported to have gone off the Houlton Rd. around the same time, with road conditions considered a factor in that accident also. No injuries were reported.
McQuarrie advises motorists to use caution as winter progresses and storms dump varying mixes of sleet and snow in the coming weeks and months.
Reduce speed according to road conditions and allow ample time to reach your destination, he said.
