The Halfway Home Pet Rescue Free Pet Food Pantry for low-income, elderly and disabled persons has arrived at the Caribou Herschel St., Animal Clinic. Individuals are asked to pickup only what is needed to supplement what they can afford to buy this month. The next delivery of pet food is expected sometime around January 21, 2010.
Those wishing to contribute to the food pantry may drop off items on Tuesday and Thursday between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. There are many area families who are in need of this free assistance in order to keep their pet instead of having to turn it in to a humane shelter.
Norma Milton has also announced there will be an Cat/Kitten Adoption Fair in the back of Expect More Dollar Store on Sweden St. in Caribou on Saturday, Dec. 19 from 1 – 4 p.m. Milton said she hopes to have Santa visit during the adoption fair and encourages anyone with a camera, to stop in and take a photo of their child or pet with Santa during the event.
There will be a box available for any donations of pet food and supplies for the shelter’s pets as well as for the Free Pet Food Pantry. Milton said there will also be a container available for returnable bottles. The pet food pantry is currently in great need of donations and she said, “Santa would be very appreciative of everyone’s help with these homeless and helpless pets.”
Financial donations for purchase of food for the free pet food pantry can be sent to HHPR, P.O. Box 488, Caribou, ME 04736; please designate on the memo line, if funds are to go toward the pet food pantry or medical care for the animals.
Milton reported that halfway Home Pet Rescue is currently offering 10 spay/neuter vouchers for low-income family pets on a first-come, first-served basis; proof of income level is necessary.
Halfway Home Pet Rescue presently has space available for 6 to 10 kittens and there are several homes waiting for them, as well as the upcoming Adoption Fair on Saturday. Individuals may call if they need to place kittens and are reminded that HHPR will also help with the cost of spaying, as funding is available.
