Students from the David J. Lyon Washburn District Elementary School recently received honors for their efforts in the American Heart Association’s Jump Rope for Heart and Hoops for Heart Programs.

The awards were presented at the annual Maine Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance conference, held Nov. 1-3 at the Samoset Resort in Rockport.
The students from grades 1-8 raised a new school record of $12,095.37, bringing the 25-year total to an amazing $143,980.01!
Honors were for first place in Jump Rope and Hoops for Heart combined events in the Division 3 category and fourth place in the Northeast Affiliate, which includes the states of Maine, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Vermont, Rhode Island and parts of New York.
For their efforts, students received prizes for the amount of money they raised and the school received $750 for the purchase of physical education equipment.
