Soccer all-stars named

    The Maine Soccer Coaches Association has announced its regional all-star teams for 2009.
    Several Aroostook County athletes were selected to the elite team and will be honored at the 36th All-Star Banquet on Dec. 6 in Bangor, when the all-state teams will also be announced and individuals named All-American and All-New England will be recognized. The players of the year in each class will also be announced.     For Eastern Maine Class B boys, Caribou’s Cameron Anderson and Presque Isle’s Nate Ackerson and Dillon Kingsbury were chosen for the honor, as well as Jack Davis of Belfast, Andy Stevick and Jim Weferling of Camden Hills; Andrew Austin, Matt Duhaime and Zach Emeigh, all of Ellsworth; Ryan Feeney of Hermon, Dylan Keller and Justin Pierel of Mt. View and Luke Bartlett of Old Town.
    In Eastern Maine Class D, Ashland teammates Casey Cobb and Kenny Tarr were chosen, as was Central Aroostook’s Daniel Brewer. Others selected were Nate Kutz, Zach Sirois and Brandon Wilcox, all of Bangor Christian; Stephen Berenyi and Devon Warman, both of Calvary Chapel; Matthew Little of Machias, Cody Robinson and Dakota Sleeper of Southern Aroostook and Curtis Picard of Wisdom.
    On the girls side, EM Class B team members include the Caribou trio of Jenna Selander, Brittany Doak and Abby Small, as well as Presque Isle’s Kayla Richards, Chelsea Nickerson and Brooke Long-Postell. Also selected were Whitney Cross of Belfast, Gabrielle Huebner of Ellsworth, Ashley Abbott of Gardiner, Melanie Arias of Maine Central Institute, Becky Wolinski of Nokomis, Kim Curtis and Jordyn Mallett, both of Winslow; and Katie Deshane and Micayla Hussey, both of Old Town.
    Recipients of the EM Class D honor included local players Taylor Baker, Brooke LaBelle and Macie Pelkey, all of Ashland; Rachael Grew and Brittni Mosher, both of Central Aroostook, Angie Hernandez of Washburn, Victoria St. Pierre of Limestone/MSSM and Courtney Churchill of Fort Fairfield.
    Other Class D players selected were Katherine Bragg of Bangor Christian, Jacqueline Veilleux of Calvary Chapel, Melissa Duffy of Katahdin, Evangeline Goodall and Liz Goodall, both of Southern Aroostook; and Jennifer Ouellette of Van Buren.
    All seniors selected had the chance to compete in the 15th annual Maine Soccer Coaches Senior Bowl, which was held at Hampden Academy Sunday, Nov. 15 and pitted the top players from Western Maine against the top players from the East. Regional championship coaches served as coaches of the teams. The West boys and girls were both winners. Kingsbury saw action in goal in the 5-4 loss in the boys game, while Churchill had an assist and Baker played the entire game in goal in the 6-2 loss in the girls contest.
