The Penobscot Valley Conference has announced its all-conference team for the 2009 fall season, and several local athletes are among the honorees.
In cross country, Alecia Palmer of Presque Isle, Dayna Michaud of Caribou and Mary Jo Sheehan of Caribou join Dacie Manion of Old Town, Brianna Dunn of Ellsworth, Mackenzie Curtis of MDI, Adrienne Carmack of John Bapst, Caitlin Barrows of Hermon, Sharah Dickens of John Bapst and Dominique Hessert of Caribou on the Class B girls team. Caribou dominated the Class B boys squad, with Vikings Tim Freme, DJ Flynn, Finn Bondeson and Christian Sleeper all making the team along with Presque Isle’s Matt Eager, John Bapst’s Gabe Stevens, Ellsworth’s Ben Chapman, MDI’s Sam Swann and Ellsworth’s Alexander Keefe and Stephen Kirby.
Roy Alden was named the boys coach of the year, with John Bapst’s Joe Capehart receiving girls coach of the year honors.
In girls soccer, Caribou’s Jenna Selander and Olivia Sleeper and Presque Isle’s Kayla Richards, Brooke-Long Postell and Chelsea Nickerson are part of the Class B first team and are joined by Katie Deshane of Old Town, Gabrielle Huebner of Ellsworth, Jordan Myerowitz of John Bapst, Elizabeth Sargent of MDI, Micayla Hussey of Old Town and Sadie Wight of Bucksport.
Included on the second team are Brittany Doak of Caribou and Chandler Guerrette of Presque Isle, as well as Jess Fortin of Mattanawcook, Lexie Chasse, Kate Gerrow and Brittany Williams, all of John Bapst; Meagan Harriman of Bucksport, Meagan Cousins of Old Town, Anna Seavey of Ellsworth and Jamie McKay and Elizabeth Weathers, both of MDI.
Ralph Michaud of Presque Isle earned coach of the year honors, while Deshane was named player of the year.
Headlining the first team for Class B boys are Nate Ackerson and Dillon Kingsbury, both of Presque Isle, and Cameron Anderson of Caribou. They are joined by the Ellsworth trio of Andrew Austin, Matt Duhaime and Zach Emeigh; Luke Bartlett of Old Town, Jon Grinole of Bucksport, Colton Gross of Hermon and Connor Records of MDI.
Ethan McDuffie and Jared Sleeper, both of Caribou, and Presque Isle’s Nathaniel Postell received second-team accolades. Others were Jordan Carter of Ellsworth, Cody Farrell of Bucksport, Carl Ferm of MDI, Brad Fulmer of Ellsworth, Jesse Graffam of Hermon, Jake Leitheiser of Old Town, Ben Steele of MDI and Colin Whalen of Bucksport.
Scott Young of Presque Isle shared coach of the year honors with Ellsworth’s Brian Higgins. Emeigh was the choice as player of the year in the conference.
Making the PVC all-conference golf team for Class B were Presque Isle’s Travis Dyer and Caribou’s Caleb Chapman. Others on the elite squad are Greg Martin of Ellsworth, Lance Bernier, Mike Thibodeau and Kasey Knights, all of Mattanawcook Academy, Tyler Fornier of Hermon, Matt Storgaard of John Bapst, Matt Brown of Foxcroft Academy and Brandon Albee of Ellsworth.
