Bikers Poker Run benefits Shriners Hospitals for Children

PRESQUE ISLE — On Aug. 16, the Aroostook Shrine Club hosted a Bikers Poker Run to benefit the Shriners Hospitals for Children. About 80 motorcycles made the ride, which started at the Aroostook Shrine Club in Presque Isle. From there they went to Mars Hill, on to Fort Fairfield and Van Buren, then back to the Shriners’ clubhouse. This round trip was close to 100 miles. The weather cooperated 100 percent.

Before the ride started, breakfast was served by Sauu Nessu, which is a unit within the Aroostook Shrine Club. After the ride was complete, the riders could stop for hot dogs, hamburgers, potato salad and homemade ice cream.
The first place winner was Kathy Collins, second place was Elwin Thomas, and third was Chris Boucher.
Several door prizes were drawn while the bikers were on their ride. This helped make the event complete. Those who generously donated were Caribou Quick Stop, Ruby Tuesday, VIP, Oriental Pearl, Northeastland Hotel, Winnies, Governors, Big Cheese Pizza, Star City IGA, Perry’s Mini Mart, Maine Distributors and Houlton Motor Sports.
This was the first time the Aroostook Shrine Club has held a motorcycle poker run. Organizers feel it was very successful. The Shriners Hospitals for Children will receive all the money raised from the poker run and the sale of meals. What the bikers did will make a difference.
Plans are already being made for another one next year.
