Island Falls Happenings

On Oct. 30, the residents of Woodland Heights held their annual fall dinner at the rec building with 11 residents enjoying a New England boiled dinner, with delicious ham. Also served at the dinner were biscuits, made by Terry Dwyer and homemade bread, made by Barbra Sleeper.
In the sweets department there were squares, made by Edith Dwyer and pumpkin pie and pumpkin bread, made by Anna Pelkey. A wonderful fellowship was enjoyed before and after the dinner.
Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Webb have returned home after spending three days in Bangor at the home of their niece, Darlene Kenny, who was in Boston with her daughter, Shawna, who had a consultation with a neurologist. They enjoyed the visit with the rest of the family but were happy to return to their own home.
On Oct. 25, Pastor Amanda Wagner, Bertha Pray and Riva Hawkes, attended the Aroostook Association of the United Church of Christ meeting, which was held in Fort Kent. Also attending the meeting were Amanda’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gene Wagner, who hail from Pennsylvania, who had never been north of Island Falls. U.S. Route 11 was taken on the way up and U.S. Route 1 on the way home so they got to see the beautiful scenery of Aroostook County.
All is very quiet in the back yard nowadays. Even the crows, which had been assembling in the back lawn in late afternoon have stopped arriving. Still lots of birds in my feeders — they all like the sunflower seeds and other stuff I put out for them. Had a flock of about eight deer one night recently under the apple tree, where they were busily eating all the apples that had dropped there. Now that it is hunting season won’t see much of them until it is over. Still no stray cats to feed-hopefully they have found a new home.
