The following courses are being offered by the Houlton/Hodgdon Adult Education Department. For more information on these, and other courses, or to register, call SAD 29/70 Adult Education at 521-3100 ext. 5.
Free Computer Training Opportunities
Houlton/Hodgdon Adult Education will offer free computer training sessions over the next few weeks. There will be two Saturday sessions for beginning computer users; the first one will be Saturday, Oct. 31 (9 a.m. to 1 p.m.) at the Houlton Higher Education Center. The second course will be Saturday, Nov. 7 (9 a.m. to 2 p.m.) at the Hodgdon Mill Pond Elementary School. There is no charge for these Saturday sessions, but registration is required.   In addition, on Monday mornings (9-11 a.m.), computer tutoring in MS Word and MS Excel will be available at the Houlton Higher Education Center. The Saturday sessions are for the individual who wants personalized help with the basics of computer operation. The Monday morning sessions are intended to assist people with specific MS Word and MS Excel issues. There is no charge for any of these sessions, but pre-registration by telephone is required.

Driving Dynamics Oct. 31
The Maine Department of Highway Safety and MSAD 29/70 Adult Education will host a Maine Driving Dynamics course at the Houlton Higher Education Center on Saturday, Oct. 31, from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. This session is for licensed state of Maine drivers who need points or who may be able to obtain an auto insurance discount. The course fee is $40.  ($10, 65 and older) Students should bring their Maine driver’s license and their Social Security number to the class. Students must pre-register, and a minimum of 12 pre-registered, paid students is required. Please stop by the office at 18 Military Street in Houlton to pre-pay for the class.

Knitting Classes to start Oct. 28
Houlton/Hodgdon Adult Education will begin its Knitting classes on Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009 from 6 – 8:15 pm at the Houlton High School.  Students will be introduced to the basics of knitting, and the instructor will provide patterns and ideas; students must bring their own needles and yarn.  The instructor is Brittany Benn and the course fee is $50.

Learn how to Skype at the Cary Library
The Cary Library and Adult Education are partnering to bring you Skype training — a free, online, video-messaging tool.  Skype will help you keep in touch with far-away loved ones. If you have a laptop, you may bring it to the training on Thursday, Nov. 5 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. The training is free, but you must pre-register by phone.
