Soccer teams finish season

    The high school soccer season comes to an end this week, and teams who have landed in the top spots of their respective classes will prepare for the playoffs, with quarterfinals on Wednesday, Oct. 28.
    The Lady Shires had one game remaining on their schedule, as they traveled to Calais yesterday to complete their season. Results of games played through Monday, Oct. 19 are as follows:
    Katahdin 6, Hodgdon 0 — At Hodgdon, the Cougars ended their season on a high note, shutting out the host Hawks behind Micah Rodgerson’s hat trick. Kolby Gallagher added a goal and three assists, while Mickey Savage and Steven Whitney both grabbed a goal.

    Hodgdon goalie Erik Ryan blocked 9 of 37 shots, while Katahdin’s Robert Mycroft turned away two of four shots.
    Madawaska 3, Houlton 0 — The Shires finished their season on a tough note in Madawaska.        Owl goalie Jamie Cyr stopped all six shots to earn his sixth shutout, while Jared Tapley stopped 17 of 20 shots for Houlton.
    Houlton 4, Schenck 0 — Last Friday, the Shires blanked the visiting Wolverines, as Dylan Gard, Cody Briggs, Gary Fowler and Jimmy Fitzpatrick all scored. Gard also picked up an assist, while goalie Tapley made six saves on seven shots faced.
    Katahdin 2, Ft. Fairfield 2 (2 OT) — Nothing was decided in this game after two overtime periods, as Katahdin’s Mycroft saved five of seven overtime shots.
    Katahdin came back from a  2-0 halftime deficit, capped by a Gallagher goal with 11:04 left in the second half, as Mike White provided the assist. Billy Livezey scored with 20:06 left in the second half. Mycroft blocked 12 of 21 shots in the game, while Fort’s Tyler Churchill made 14 saves on 25 shots.
    Southern Aroostook 0, Madawaska 2 — At Presque Isle last Thursday, Jesse Boutilier rejected 18 of 22 shots for the Warriors in their third loss on the season.
    The Owls scored a goal in each half to defeat Southern Aroostook and Madawaska goalie Jamie Cyr stopped six of 11 shots faced.
    Hodgdon 2, Limestone/MSSM 2 (2 OT) — Neither team could crease the net after two overtime periods at Limestone last Thursday. Wade Estabrook scored both goals for Hodgdon, while Ryan came away with 12 saves on 16 shots.
    For Limestone, Zach Moreau saved 15 of 21 shots.

    Southern Aroostook 8, East Grand 0 — It was all the Warriors last Wednesday in Dyer Brook, with Dakota Sleeper’s hat trick, along with single goals by Pat Goodall, Nick Tarr, Jesse Small, Taylor Locke and Scott McDonald.
    Goalie Boulier combined with Chris Casey to stop two of three shots faced.
    For East Grand, Abe Britton was peppered with 41 shots. He blocked 31.
    Houlton 6, Hodgdon 1 — Last Tuesday in Hodgdon, the Shires picked up the win behind two goals each by Fowler and Fitzpatrick. Gard and Micah Goetsch each added a goal, as well. Gard grabbed two assists, while Goetsch had one.
    Jake Tidd scored for Hodgdon on an assist from Andrew Lane.
    Houlton’s Tapley made one save on two shots, while Ryan partnered with Dan McGillicuddy to stop nine of 16 shots.

    In girls action:
    Houlton 3, Madawaska 2 (OT) — It was Brooke Deveau’s goal after a scramble in front of the net with 49 seconds left in overtime that lifted Houlton to a hard fought win.
    Vanessa Sanderson and Amanda Fogarty both scored and added an assist in the first half  for Houlton. Goalie Madison Lezotte set aside four of eight shots.
    Valerie Cormier tied the game on an unassisted goal with 12:51 left in regulation. Amanda Nadeau saved six of 14 shots.
    Katahdin 2, Hodgdon 0 — The Lady Cougars finished their season with a win over host Hodgdon, as Melissa Duffy and Kali Rush each scored a goal. Katrina Taylor and Duffy each picked up assists. Makayla Patterson stopped seven of 11 shots.
    For Hodgdon, Emily Jurson blocked 17 of 25 shots.
    Katahdin 2, Fort Fairfield 1 — Last Friday, the Lady Cougars picked up a win behind first-half goals by Olivia McNally and Rush in Stacyville. Duffy assisted on McNally’s goal. Patterson had 12 saves on 13 shots, while Fort’s Katy Donovan made six saves on eight shots.
    Houlton 4, Schenck 0 — Last Thursday in Houlton, the Lady Shires blanked the Wolverines behind Mikaelah Tracy’s two goals. Sanderson had a goal and an assist, while Chelsi Murray  scored  and Rebecca Waite added two assists, along with Taylor Bailey’s assist. Lezotte made no saves on two shots.
    Limestone/MSSM 2, Hodgdon 0 — At Limestone, Amanda Allen scored off a Bethany Berry assist and Rylee Leighton added an insurance goal. Jurson turned away eight of 22 shots.
    Southern Aroostook 16, East Grand 0 — The Lady Warriors overpowered the visiting Vikings as 11 players scored goals as Southern Aroostook finished an undefeated season last Wednesday.
    Elizabeth Goodall, Evangeline Goodall, Rochelle Nadeau, Kim Pratt and Jillian Diaferio scored two goals each, while Jasmine Rockwell, Beth Bishop, Cassie Garcelon, Alex Bishop, Desirae Dubois and Morgan Gustin also scored. Mallary Lawlor and Emily Cummings combined for one save on one shot.
    Kim Armstrong turned away eight of 40 shots for East Grand.

    Houlton 6, Hodgdon 2 — At Hodgdon, Murray and Fogarty scored two goals apiece, while   Sanderson and Martha McPartland each added a goal in the win. Lezotte set aside three of six shots for Houlton, while Jurson had seven saves on 13 shots for Hodgdon.
    Chelsea Sloat and Kelsey Foster each scored the Lady Hawks.
    Katahdin 1, Washburn 0 — At Washburn, Katahdin’s Duffy scored the lone goal with 14:54 left in the first half to lift her team to the win. Patterson had four saves on five shots.
    Washburn’s Rayah Saucier rejected four of 12 shots.
