WESTFIELD —A Shorey Rd. residence sustained extensive damage when a fire broke out shortly after noon on Thursday.
“It was a two-story farmhouse with an attached shed. Firefighters arrived to find smoke and flames pouring from the structure,” said Mars Hill Fire Chief Arthur London.

The home, owned by Dana York, was heavily damaged by the blaze. Firefighters were able to prevent the fire from reaching a mobile home just feet away from the house.
According to fire department records, York was home at the time of the fire and placed the call for assistance. York was reportedly the only one home at the time of the blaze.
“York cut his arm somehow and subsequently sought treatment at The Aroostook Medical Center for his injury. No other injuries were reported,” said London.
London said mutual aid was provided by the Presque Isle Fire Department.
Crews worked for about two hours to extinguish the blaze. The east side of the structure, adjacent to the home’s chimney, was the most heavily damaged. London said while the building is still standing, the home would most likely be considered a total loss.
“I don’t believe the home was insured,” added London.
The cause of the fire had not been determined at presstime.
