HOULTON, Maine — Maine State Police are investigating a fatal motor vehicle accident that occurred at approximately 9:15 a.m. Monday. Troopers Carmen Lilley and Jeff Clark responded to the accident on U.S. Route 1 in Littleton and were assisted by Houlton Rescue and Houlton Police.
Barry Clark, 54, of Houlton was traveling southbound on Route 1 in Littleton, when his 1997 Chevrolet Blazer drifted across the northbound lane and off the roadway striking a tree headon near “Hubcap Heaven.” Clark received severe trauma from the impact and was pronounced dead at the scene. Extensive damage was sustained to the vehicle causing it to be total loss.
“At this time it appears that Clark may have fallen asleep causing him to drift off the roadway,” said Sgt. Tom Pelletier of the Maine State Police.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
