PRESQUE ISLE — Driver inattention is being blamed for a two-vehicle accident Oct. 1 on the Caribou Rd.
The Presque Isle Police Department were notified of the accident at approximately 10:48 a.m.
“The accident happened right in front of our business. I went out to see if I could help and had my mother call 9-1-1,” said Chad Caron, co-owner of Caron’s Lawn Service, on Route 1 just north of the Aroostook River Bridge.
Officer Kevin Schumacher and Det. Sgt. Wayne Selfridge, PIPD, responded to the scene. Crown Ambulance and the Presque Isle Fire Department also responded to assist. Selfridge directed traffic, while Schumacher investigated the accident.
“Glyn Lovely, 69, of Presque Isle, was traveling north in a 2000 Saturn four-door. It appears he was slowing to turn into Caron’s. Clifford J. Ouellette, 67, of Caribou, was behind Lovely, operating a 2005 Chevy Trail Blazer, and apparently didn’t notice Lovely slowing in time to do so himself,” said Schumacher.
Both drivers were alone at the time of the incident and were reportedly wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident.
Lovely was transported by Crown to The Aroostook Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Ouellette was transported by Crown and treated at Cary Medical Center for non-life-threatening injuries.
TA Service, of Presque Isle, was called to remove Lovely’s vehicle from the scene. Cowett’s Towing Service picked up Ouellette’s Chevy. Both vehicles were considered a total loss.
No charges are pending.
