FAMILY TRADITION — Joseph Staples, of Swans Island, gets help tying down the moose he got Sept. 28 from grandsons Shepard Walker, 7, and Marshall Walker, 9, also of Swans Island. The animal was one of the largest taken the first week of hunting season, weighing in at 1,020 lbs. This is the second moose Staples has gotten. His family — he, his wife, daughter and son-in-law — have had great luck when it comes to moose hunting. The four had taken five moose over the years, including this one. Staples wife also had a permit this year but word wasn’t available on how she made out.
