PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — A two-vehicle accident on the Houlton Rd. sent at least two people to the hospital with minor injuries on Sept. 28.
The Presque Isle Police Department responded to a call of crash at approximately 1:34 p.m. in front of Stewart’s Farm. Upon arrival, it was discovered a pickup truck had rear-ended a four-door sedan. Officer Rob Thibeault, PIPD, was the investigating officer, while Sgt. Mark Barnes provided traffic control.

“The car, operated by Roxana R. Mooers, 54, of Houlton, was traveling north on Rt. 1. She slowed to turn into Stewart’s and was struck from behind by a truck driven by Gregory McCrum, of Westfield,” said Barnes, PIPD.
The Presque Isle Fire Department and Crown Ambulance also responded to the scene. Firefighters had to use hydraulic equipment to pry open doors to get Mooers and her passengers free.
“She had two or three passengers with her,” said Barnes.
Mooers and at least one of her passengers was transported to The Aroostook Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, treated and released. There was no word on the condition of her passengers. McCrum was reportedly uninjured.
“She was lucky. Going by the skid marks, her car spun before coming to rest in the ditch against several hay bales. The hay prevented it from being a more serious accident,” said Barnes.
A number of customers were in the area of the farm market when the accident occurred. Had the bales not stopped the vehicle’s motion, there might have been more injuries.
Mooers’ Chevy Impala was considered a total loss and was towed from the scene by Jerry’s Towing Service of Presque Isle. McCrum’s GMC pickup sustained front-end damage but was drivable.
No charges are pending.
