Post offices earn awards

16 years ago

    The latest Gallup Organization survey of customer service at the US Postal Service is out — and the Northern New England District, comprising Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont, along with 87 individual post offices, are winners.     Each earned recognition in the Postal Service’s 5 Star Customer Service Awards Program. The Northern New England District and five individual post offices are credited with having won the award for the eighth consecutive quarter.
    “It says a lot about the quality of our employees in general and the winning post offices in particular,” said Manager, Consumer Affairs, Michael J. Doyle. “It shows we’ve made a commitment to excellent customer service and have followed through on that commitment. Now we’ve got the stars to prove it.”
    The Gallup Organization surveys USPS customers, asking them to rate local post offices on efficiency, accuracy of delivery, consistency of delivery and wait-time-in-line. Post offices earning 5 Star status received a high number of “excellent” ratings.
    Employees at each winning post office will receive lapel pins and the office receives a door cling to let customers know they’ve achieved this rating. Districts and post offices earning a series of four consecutive 5 Star quarterly ratings can go from bronze- to silver- to gold-star rating.
    Though not all post offices had enough data to receive a score (a minimum of 10 responses per ZIP Code is needed), all offices and mail processing plants contributed to the district’s achievement of the 5 Star rating.
    The awards are as follows:
• Silver Award (eight consecutive quarters): New Hampshire — Littleton, Berlin and Dover; Vermont — Middlebury; Maine — Bath;
• Bronze Award (four consecutive quarters): New Hampshire — Pelham, Franklin, Pennacook and Atkinson; Maine — Ellsworth and Camden;
• First Time Winners: New Hampshire — Nashua; Maine — Boothbay Harbor and Eliot;
Additional winners were also named for New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine. Offices recognized in Maine included: Rumford, Farmington, Presque Isle, Waterville, Saco, Topsham, Cape Elizabeth, Oxford, Augusta, Millinocket, Orono, Kennebunk, Wells, Lewiston, Norway, South Berwick, York, Freeport, Standish, Buxton, Yarmouth, South Portland, Brewer, Hampden, Lincoln, Bar Harbor, Caribou, Fairfield and Oakland.
