York – Sherwood “Woody” D. Barton, 81, of 2 Eureka Ave., died Monday, Sept. 14, 2009, at home. He was born June 14, 1928, in Houlton, the son of the late Roy and Maude (Anderson) Barton.
He was a graduate of Bob Jones University in Greenville, S.C. He served in the United States Army. He had worked as a potato farmer for 27 years in Mars HI ll. He also worked for Cooks Hardware and the York Corner True Value Hardware. He was a member of the York Street Baptist Church and served as a Deacon. He was a board member of the New Brunswick Bible Institute in Victoria, New Brunswick, Canada.
He leaves his wife of 20 years, Doris L. (MacGorman) Barton; two sons, William Barton of Mars Hill and James Jackson of Houston, Texas; two daughters, Catherine Christianson of Houston, Texas and Judith Fouse of Virginia; a brother, Roy Barton of Greenville, S.C.; four sisters, Joyce Blackstone of Perham, Phyllis Blackstone of Perham, Betty Tompkins of Tempe, Ariz. and Gloria Dinsmore of Live Oak, Florida; and two grandchildren, Joshua and Brionna Barton.
