Web site design focus of upcoming session

    Web site development tips for the small business person will be the focus of a training session sponsored by the Maine Small Business Development Center at Northern Maine Development Commission, Amity Professional Services, Presque Isle Area Chamber of Commerce and the University of Maine at Presque Isle Professional Business Leaders club.     The two-hour workshop will be held on Thursday, Sept. 24, at UMPI’s Campus Center, Room 118. It will begin at 6 p.m.
    Attendees will learn many helpful tips about development, optimization and managing their small business Web sites. Topics to be covered will include: Web site development — Do it yourself, get a family member or hire a professional; free tools such as Google sites; what about front page or other WYSIWYG editors; how do I choose a Web developer; and search engine optimization.
    The workshop will be lead by Larry Hamilton of Amity Professional Services located in Amity. Hamilton became interested in computers while attending UMPI where he maintained a 3.90 GPA. Larry, as he prefers to be called, went on to start Amity Professional Services (AmityWebs.com), which offers Web design, hosting, software set-up  and training, property management, and bookkeeping services.
    Among the area Web sites Larry has developed are The Presque Isle and Houlton chambers of commerce, local non-profits, e-commerce sites, community newsletters and others. Amity Professional Services is an environmentally friendly, green company which is operated on wind and solar power.
