Grades 3-4 Girls Soccer
Goals came early and often as the Galaxy and Blizzard kicked off the season last Wednesday with the Blizzard winning 5-3. Scoring goals for the Blizzard were Madison Bearden (4 goals), Natalie Bates, while Amelia Theriault and Libbee Currie had assists. For the Galaxy, Mia Piro scored two goals and Amanda Wells added one.
Also on Wednesday, the Tornados beat the Hurricanes 4-2 as Savannah Rodriguez and Hailey St. Thomas both scored two goals. For the Hurricanes, Emily Wheaton scored a pair of goals.
On Friday, playing under the lights, the Tornados and Galaxy battled to a 2-2 stalemate. Scoring for the Galaxy were Amanda Wells and Piro, while Rodriguez and Kimberly Cook each scored one goal for the Tornados
Katrina Dakin of the Galaxy and Breanna Byrd of the Tornados made that score hold up as both played great in goal for their teams.
Grades 3-4 Boys Soccer
The Crunch and Missiles kicked off the boys soccer season with a thrilling game Tuesday afternoon as the two teams battled to a 2-2 tie. Griffin Guerrette scored both goals for the Crunch with Ian Michaud adding an assist. Jonah Hudson had two goals for the Missiles with Isaac Madore adding an assist.
Defense was the name of the game in the second match up of the afternoon as the Blast and Sounders clashed. The two squads also battled to a 1-1 stalemate. Torey Levesque scored the lone goal for the Blast, while Thomas Patenaude scored for the Sounders.
In other action, the Drillers started their season off on the right foot, coming back from an early deficit to knock off the Missiles 3-1. Leading the Drillers were Zechariah Morse, Erick Tompkins, and Jack Beaulieu each with one goal, while Hudson scored the lone goal for the Missiles.
The Crunch got three first half goals from three different players en route to the 3-0 win over the Sounders. Colin Daigle notched the first goal as he and Ian Michaud hooked up off a set play. Griffin Guerrette added the second goal, scoring unassisted as he maneuvered his way through the defense and blasted the ball into the goal. Michaud added a goal of his own just before intermission when he poked a loose ball in from five yards out.
Grades 5-6 Soccer
The Sting took on the Clash in the inaugural game of the fifth and sixth grade soccer league, with the Clash winning 1-0. Noah Kinney scored off an assist from Wyatt Kennedy.
On Thursday, goaltending was the name of the game as the Crew and Mutiny took the field on a bitter afternoon as the two teams settled for a 1-1 tie. Both Pat Cash of the Mutiny and Grant Stewart of the Crew were tested early and often. Josiah Morse of the Mutiny and Michaela Dumais of the Crew each scored a goal. Shelby Shaw provided the assist on Morse’s goal.
In other action, four Clash players notched goals as they shutout the Strikers 5-0. Rachel Maxwell got the scoring going, converting off a Wyatt Kennedy pass. Moments later Alex Brewer made the score 2-0 courtesy of a Bradley Kinney assist. The two reversed roles less than a minute later as Kinney was the goal scorer with the assist going to Brewer. The Strikers tried to muster a comeback attempt as Jake Kinney and David Kofstad created pressure on the Clash defense. Joseph Boone was up to the task, making multiple saves throughout the course of the game. Kennedy scored off a Bradley Kinney pass, then Kinney tallied the final goal of the game with Noah Kinney picking up the assist.
3rd-4th Grade Basketball Registration
Registration for the Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department’s third and fourth grade basketball program will begin on Sept. 28. Schedules will be available on Oct. 20. The program offers leagues for both boys and girls. Practices and games are held weekdays after school at the community center and begin the last week in October. The registration fee is $18.
Indoor Pool
The Presque Isle Indoor Pool will be closed Monday, Sept. 7, for Labor Day.
