Limestone/MSSM’s Victoria St. Pierre boots the ball at Central Aroostook goalie Ashley Estabrook on a penalty kick in the first half of Monday’s girls soccer game in Limestone. St. Pierre missed on this kick, but the Eagles were victorious 4-1.

The following results were reported to the newspaper by presstime.
Caribou 5, Madawaska 0 — At Madawaska Thursday, Caribou opened its season in style with a shutout win over the Owls. Jenna Selander scored a goal and an assist to lead the Vikings. Paige Small, Olivia Sleeper, Jamie Martin and Abby Small each had one goal in the victory. Madison Outing and Lydia Kieffer had assists. Small broke the scoring ice for Caribou with 16:09 to play in the first half as she headed in a goal off an assist from Outing. Sleeper creased the net with 23 second to go in the half for the 2-0 halftime lead.
Brittany Doak and Morgan Swan shared net duties and combined to stop eight of 10 Owl shots. Amanda Nadeau had 17 saves on 22 shots for Madawaska.
“We played a much better second half,” Caribou coach Todd Albert said. “We passed the ball better as we went along in the game. Looking back on the game, it was a good start to our season. It brought out some things to work on, as well as some things that we did well. Everyone got to play some minutes, so that should help their comfort level going into our next game.”
The coach added he liked the balanced scoring shown by the Vikings, and the unselfish play displayed throughout the game.

Limestone/MSSM 4, Central Aroostook 1 — At Limestone Monday, the Eagles (1-1-1) soared to their first victory of the young season. Stephanie Leighton booted in two goals, while Jasmine Cote and Tiana Reyes each added solo goals for the Eagles.
Central Aroostook’s goal scorer was not reported.
Van Buren 2, Limestone/MSSM 1 — At Limestone Friday, the Eagles lost a close contest to the Crusaders. Danielle Pelkey scored the lone goal for Limestone/MSSM with 8:21 remaining in the second half off an Amanda Allen assist.
Kristy Leonard and Haley Lizotte each had a goal for Van Buren. Jen Ouellette had an assist.
The Eagles out shot Van Buren 18-13 and held a 4-2 edge in corner kicks. Audra Kirk had nine saves for the Eagles, while Ashlie Wilson had 13 saves for the Crusaders.
Fort Fairfield 5, Easton 2 — At Easton Monday, Kacie York had two goals to lead Fort Fairfield (3-1) to victory over the Bears (1-2-1). Kylie Plourde, Becca Pelkey and Kelsey Turner also had goals for the Tigers.
Sydney Trask and Ariana Babineau each had goals for the Bears.
Washburn 1, Central Aroostook 1 (2 OT) — At Mars Hill Friday, Washburn finally scored its first goal of the season, but it was not enough to come away with a victory as Washburn (0-0-3) had to settle for the tie for the third straight game.
Washburn’s Meagan Saucier scored an unassisted goal with 18 minutes to play in regulation. Brittni Mosher scored off a Rachel Grew assist in the second half for Central Aroostook (3-1-1). Neither team was able to crease the net in either of the two sudden-death, overtime periods.
    M. Sauicer and Rayah Saucier combined to make 11 saves on 15 shots for Washburn. Ashley Estabrook had 10 saves on 23 shots for CAHS. Central Aroostook held a 6-2 edge in corner kicks.
“[Friday was a] great game with both teams having lots of  chances, but rain in the second half made the ball very hard to control,” Central Aroostook coach Dave Collins said.
Easton 0, Washburn 0 (2 OT) — At Easton Wednesday, neither squad was able to crease the net after 90 minutes of action, resulting in the stalemate. The Beavers (0-0-2), who are still looking for their first goal of the year, had plenty of chances in Wednesday’s game. Washburn out shot the Bears 30-22, but the Beavers held a 7-4 edge in corner kicks. Taylor Burtt had 19 saves for Easton, while M. Saucier had 10 saves for Washburn.
“The girls worked really hard today, and never gave up,” Washburn coach Marcie Barbarula said. “Now we need to work on shooting the ball to the corners of the goals, instead of firing right at the goalie.”
Barbarula added the Beavers need to work on keeping their heads up while moving up the field with the ball, to see open teammates.
Easton coach Rachel Tomlinson said she was pleased with her team’s touches with the ball.
“We’re a very young team, so for us to come out and get the early first-touches on the ball was good to see,” Tomlinson said. “Our goalie, Taylor Burtt, did an outstanding job for us today. She worked hard over the summer and has improved dramatically from a year ago.”
Central Aroostook 3, Fort Fairfield 2 — At Mars Hill Wednesday, Sarah Michaud scored the game-winning goal 20 seconds into the second half to give Central Aroostook the win over Fort Fairfield (2-1). Mosher scored two unassisted goals for the Panthers, while Courtney Churchill had two goals for the Tigers. Central Aroostook goalie Estabrook stopped nine of 25 shots, while Fort Fairfield netminder Allyson Murchison had five saves on 14 shots.
Ashland 9, Wisdom 0 — At Presque Isle Tuesday, Aug. 18, the Hornets (1-0) opened their season in style, blanking Wisdom. Jessica Jimmo netted three goals to lead Ashland. Macie Pelkey added two goals and an assist, while Kayla Cote, Brooke LaBelle Whitney Donovan, and Rylee Graham each had one goal.
Taylor Baker did not face a shot in goal for the Hornets. Suzie Collins had 19 saves on 28 shots for the Pioneers.
