The Board of Directors for the newly formed Halfway Home Pet Rescue dba Madawaska Lake Homeless Cats met recently for a potluck luncheon and program planning meeting at Madawaska Lake. Front row, left, are: David Bickford of Etna, free pet food pantry coordinator; Anne Price of Presque Isle, treasurer, ; Norma Milton of Madawaska Lake, president and Cheryl Kelley of St Francis, northern area food pantry distributor. Back row: Everett Milton of Madawaska Lake, secretary and activity support; Garrick and Sandra Milton of Caribou, program leader and Jean Nadeau of Connor, vice-president. Missing from the photo was Ritchie Nadeau of Connor. The Nadeau's are also food distributors of the feral cat feeding & spay/neuter program and directors of the shelter foster program. In the fall of 2009, the foster shelter network will be relocating to Caribou and will, at that time, delete the dba Madawaska Lake from it's name. The shelter is currently in need of used bath and hand towels, bleach, Purina Kitten Chow and evaporated milk for kitten formula. Shelter volunteers appreciate the kindness of those who’ve returned bottles at 88 Bennett Drive Redemption, those who’ve donated funds into the shelter’s area collection boxes, and the customers at the Valley Woodworking tag sale. Caribou Shop N’Save have provided a shopping cart at the front of their store to collect donated items for the food kitchen as well as shelter supplies. The foster shelter volunteers remind the public that the previously mentioned options are their only resource for obtaining supplies, funding the spay/neuter program and meeting the medical needs of the animals. The Halfway Home Pet Rescue volunteers are currently organizing a community-wide bottle drive and yard sale on Sept. 12 at the home of Judy Robertson on Pleasant St., in Caribou, and they encourage interested individuals to drop off any yard sale items or bottles at the location or call 896-5650 for information about working the fund-raiser.
