Plante, Ethelyn Linnea, 91, New Sweden, at Presque Isle, August 22, 2009. A private graveside service will be held at a later date at the New Sweden Cemetery. Arrangements are in the care of the Lancaster-Morgan Funeral Home, Caribou.

 

Image    NEW SWEDEN – Ethelyn Linnea (Nelson) Plante, 91, passed away Saturday, August 22, 2009, at a Presque Isle nursing home.  She was born June 10, 1918, in New Sweden, the daughter of Oscar and Ida (Strid) Nelson. Ethelyn was a homemaker and took great pride in raising her family. Family events were important to her and she never forgot a birthday or a holiday. Ethelyn was known for her strong work ethic, was a 100 barrel a day potato picker, knitting homemade mittens for her children and grandchildren, canning all her vegetables grown in her own garden, her grandchildren especially loved her homemade jellies and jams. She was renowned for her homemade bread and spritz. Ethelyn was very proud of her Swedish heritage, and was fluent in the Swedish language, as well as customs and traditions. She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in North Caribou.
    Ethelyn is survived by two children: Roger Plante and his wife Bonnie of New Sweden, Darlene Plante Levesque and her life partner Richard Lapointe of Caribou, eight grandchildren: Scott Plante of Mass., Michael Plante of Maryland, Richard Plante of Mass., Holly (Plante) Henderson of Hampden, Roger Paul Plante of Caribou, Troy Plante of Woodland, Linnea (Levesque) Miller of Bangor and Michael Levesque of Connor, sixteen great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, a former daughter-in-law Betty Plante Dunn,  of Presque Isle, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Emanuel Roland Plante, a son Armond Plante two brothers: Verner Strid and Richard Nelson, two sisters: Lillian Johnson and Irene Haney.
    Special thank you to the staff at Presque Isle Nursing Home. We appreciate all you have done for our mother over the past 11 years.
