Scenes from the 155th Northern Maine Fair

    THIS YOUNG LADY appeared to be enjoying a leisurely pony ride August 1 at the fair. Children also had the opportunity to visit more animals at the petting zoo, with a variety of farm animals also on display in the barn area.

    LITTLE MISS PRESQUE ISLE 2009 Molly Kingsbury kept dry at the fair July 31, using a colorful umbrella. This marked one of Kingsbury’s first appearances as royalty, since replacing Taylor Hedrich, who was named Little Miss Potato Queen.

    FAIR OFFICIALS and fictional characters were on hand July 31 to welcome visitors on the first day of the Northern Maine Fair. Pictured, at left, is Kevin McCartney, Northern Maine Fair Association vice president; and at right, Andy LeBlanc, president. Opening-day showers were replaced with plenty of blue skies and sunshine as fair week continued, resulting in hundreds turning out to check out the numerous festivities offered at this year’s event.

    FOOD SERVERS like Debbie Rafford and Connie Guntrum, pictured here serving sausage and hamburgers, saw business pick up at the fair as the weather improved. Here, the pair wait on customers on August 1. Vendors were kept busy throughout the week, serving customers their favorite fair treats, from sausages to onion rings, dough boys, shaved ice, cotton candy and fair fries.

    STANDING ROOM ONLY — Clear skies August 1 caused the fairgrounds to fill in quickly, as folks ventured out to enjoy one of the few dry days we’ve had this summer. The weather continued to be favorable throughout the week, as fairgoers turned out to have fun and check out some of their favorite activities, from exhibits set up in the various halls, rides on the midway, to performances by a variety of entertainers, harness racing, a demolition derby, 4-H baby beef competition, a car show, chimpanzee act, food vendors and so much more.
