SADC on The Go

Image    NOTE: Everyone knows that SADC is a local organization and many know that its main charge is to market the region to businesses from away that are looking to expand their operations and/or to relocate.  An organization is made up of people. Many don’t know, however, the players that make up SADC.
This is the third in a series of articles in which we will be featuring the board members who make up SADC and who are so crucial to its success.
Skip Cleary is one of SADC’s more recent directors and represents the New Limerick area on the board.  Having been born in Island Falls, he has been a resident of the southern Aroostook area all of his life, currently residing in New Limerick with his wife and family.
Skip graduated from Hodgdon High School and is continuing his education working toward a degree in Business Administration.
Married to the former Mary Jane Foster, Skip and his wife have two children, Michael, 20 and Ashley, 18.  Mike is currently enrolled at the University of Maine at Orono, majoring in electrical engineering. Ashley graduated this spring from Houlton High School and will be attending Orono in the fall, in the College of Business Administraation program majoring in finance.
Skip is a 25-year employee of the Louisiana-Pacific Corporation located in New Limerick. He is the plant superintendent and is responsible for the operations of a $175 million, new facility renovation, which employs well over 100 employees and specializes in producing laminated strand lumber and wood products used for construction. While at LP he has won and/or been responsible for the plant’s winning several awards including numerous corporate safety awards, an A-grade award, best run time for a plant and also a cleanest plant award.
While his job keeps him extremely busy, he finds time to pursue his favorite hobbies: home projects both inside and out (he is just putting the finishing touches on a new home), golfing and tinkering with anything mechanical.
When asked why he became a director of SADC he stated, “I became a director of the Southern Aroostook Development Corporation when asked because I want to give back to the community and make a difference in the community that I work and live in.”
Skip brings a lot of expertise in the wood-related industry to the SADC board of directors, which is welcomed, as many projects that are worked on are forestry-based. His contacts are invaluable to the organization.
SADC continues to push forward with its mission to attract and guide new business to southern Aroostook for the betterment of our area. SADC is a private/public-funded partnership and if interested in contributing to its efforts or attending one of the board meetings as a guest, please contact the office at (207) 521-0157.
