On Aug. 1 and 2, the Caribou Little League 9 and 10 year old all-stars participated in the Acadian Little League Marty Lyons Classic Tournament in Bar Harbor and finished as runners up in the event.

Members of the Caribou Little League 9-10 year-old all-star team which placed second in a recent tourney held in Bar Harbor were, in front from left, Noah Frost, Evan Desmond, Brandon Tweed, Nick Pelletier, Tyler Dombroski, Donovan Savage, Hunter Milliard and bat boy Camden Huck. Back row, manager E.J. Huck, Mason Huck, Zack Wright, Caleb Willett, Conner Plourde, Jacob Burby and coach Frank Frost.
In the first of four games played over the weekend, Caribou squared off against the home Acadia team. Caribou jumped out to an early 6-0 lead, but the Acadian team put up three runs in the bottom of the inning to keep things close early. However, Caribou was relentless at the plate and finished the game with a 19-3 win.
Offensively, Caribou was lead by Zack Wright, who went 3 for 4 with a double and three runs scored. Jacob Burby went 2 for 3 with two doubles and two runs scored, Mason Huck was 3 for 3 with a double and two runs scored. Donovan Savage and Conner Plourde added two hits each. Nick Pelletier and Brandon Tweed each added a hit. On the mound, Caribou pitchers recorded 10 strikeouts.
Game 2 of the tournament was the first of two meetings with the Holbrook team and was as exciting of a game as any all day. Things got off to a fast start when Mason Huck hit a two-run home run over the fence into the left field bleachers. Caribou held the 2-0 lead into the third inning until Alex Maxsimic of Holbrook hit his fourth home run of the tournament over the center field fence to tie the game.
Holbrook took the lead with two runs in the top of the fourth inning but could not hold it as Caribou put up three runs in the bottom of the inning. Donovan Savage led off with a walk, Mason Huck and Tyler Dombroski each hit doubles to drive in the tying runs. Caleb Willett hit an RBI grounder to take a 5-4 lead into the fifth inning.
Holbrook tied the game in the top of the fifth and then took a two-run lead in the sixth that Caribou could not overcome. Dombroski struck out five batters over four innings and defensively, Wright had two putouts at third base, while Noah Frost and Evan Desmond also played solid in the field.
Game 3 of the tournament for Caribou matched the Acadia all star team against the Vikings for a chance to play in the championship game. Caribou looked like they were going to make it an easy time with a 9-3 lead heading into the fourth inning, but the Acadia team scored five times to make it a one-run game.
After leadoff singles in the bottom of the fourth inning by Savage and Huck, the Vikings scored two insurance runs that proved to be all they needed. Savage and Willett provided strong pitching. Savage went 3 for 3 at the plate, Hunter Milliard hit a two-run double and Frost drove in a run in the third inning.
Caribou and Holbrook were right back at it in the championship game. In their third game of the day and facing strong pitching, Caribou just could not get anything going offensively. Though the game was well played by both teams, Caribou had no answers for Holbrook in this one, thus, settling for the runners-up trophy.
Dombroski and Huck provided Caribou’s only hits, while Burby, Dombroski, Huck and Desmond combined on the mound to allow only four Holbrook hits.
