“My father was a firefighter,” states Caribou Firefighter Captain Steve Sperry, “I spent a lot of time at the firehouse and liked it.” Now, at 56, the Woodland resident has been with the Caribou Fire and Ambulance Department for 40 years — five as a paid call member and the last 35 as a full-time firefighter. Reflecting on being a firefighter, Capt. Sperry stated, “You have to be ready to devote a lot of time to the great amount of training involved with this job and it is one of today’s most dangerous jobs.”
Firefighter Steve and his wife Brenda are the parents of two sons, Scott and Jason. In his free time away from the fire department, he enjoys “ hunting, fishing, four-wheeling — any outside activity.”
Captain Sperry would like the community to remember that, “The Caribou Fire Department does many things unseen by the citizens of Caribou. Many nights while they are asleep, we are working.”
