Caribou Cadets attend Civil Air Patrol Encampment

   Cadet Senior Master Sergeant Angela McDonald and Cadet Airman 1st Class Trevor Oplinus recently attended the Northeast Region Civil Air Patrol Encampment at Otis Air Force Base, Mass. Thirty-six cadets from all over New England received training in teamwork, drill, customs and courtesies and leadership reaction.

    During the week of intense training, cadets visited the local Coast Guard facility and had a tour of the 6th Space Warning Squadron, Pave Paws. The class had an exciting flight in a Blackhawk helicopter around Cape Cod.
    Cadet McDonald received the Outstanding First-Year Cadet award and Cadet Oplinus was a member of the Honor Flight for the encampment. Both cadets are members of the County Composite Squadron Base at the Caribou Airport.
    Civil Air Patrol, the official Air Force Auxiliary, is a nonprofit organization performing more than 90 percent of inland search and rescue missions in the continental United States as tasked by the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center. Volunteers also take a leading role in aerospace education and serve as mentors to America’s youths through CAP Cadet Programs.
