Sesquicelebrate on Thursday, July 9, by enjoying the sweet treat of a fresh, made in front of your own eyes, strawberry shortcake, courtesy of the Caribou Kiwanis Club. This annual shortcake event will take place at the Caribou Recreation and Wellness Center from 8 a.m. to 6 p. m, running in part, concurrently with the exciting Thomaston Auction House Antique Appraisal Fair. The annual Kiwanis Strawberry Shortcake Festival is a well-known and much anticipated event which sees all proceeds benefiting area youth programs.
Caribou Kiwanis Club members will be serving up the delectable dish — rain or shine. Free delivery is available locally to area businesses and organizations that desire multiple orders of the shortcakes. Dialing 493-3200 or 551-0743, will put you in contact with Kiwanis Club members who assist in filling your orders.
The annual Kiwanis Strawberry Shortcake Festival allows for a great way for businesses to treat their employees — on hopefully what will be a very hot summer day. Kiwanis President Charlene Gage will be available to answer any questions regarding this event at the same numbers listed above.
Gage stated that the Caribou Kiwanis Club has a long history of serving up this wonderful symbol of summer and as a result of everyone’s enthusiasm and valued participation in this Sesquicentennial event, provides the impetus once again for Kiwanians to give priority to local youth and to support many youth programs.
A partial list advocating youth development programs that benefit from the annual Strawberry Shortcake Festival include: the Aroostook Team Leadership Camp (ATLC); Caribou High School Key Club; field trips for organizations within Caribou High School; the Caribou Middle School’s Builders Club; local Boy Scout troops; camp Adventure for Childhood Diabetes as well as fully supporting two annual scholarships.
So forget about all the rainy weather and circle tomorrow’s date, get out and enjoy quelling your curiosity as to how much that old wooden recipe box might be worth and then — regardless of what the result might be — treat yourself to some real, “berried treasure.”
It’s Caribou’s 150th Birthday — Be a part of it!
