In hopes of promoting and bringing attention to the importance of the potato to Aroostook County, the Maine Agri-Women will once again sponsor a Potato Cooking Contest, in conjunction with the 61st Maine Potato Blossom Festival in July.

The event will be held on Saturday, July 18, in the Fort Fairfield Elementary School cafeteria.
The six categories in the Potato Cooking Contest will include: breads, casseroles, desserts, salads, soups and miscellaneous. Winners in each of the six categories will be based on four qualities: appearance of the each dish, texture, ease of preparation and flavor.
Recipes must have potatoes as an ingredient. All contestants must provide a copy of the complete recipe along with the prepared dish. Contestants are allowed to enter two categories.
Entrants are urged to bring their dishes to the cafeteria between 10 and 10:30 a.m. on the day of the event. Judging will begin at 11 a.m.
The Potato Cooking Contest will award a $200 grand prize. First and second place prizes will also go to the winning recipes in each of the six categories.
